Aiwa Taps Sony’s Palumbo As President/CEO

Mahwah, N.J. – Jim Palumbo, long-time Sony Electronics executive, has been named president and CEO of Aiwa America, effective Nov. 1.

Palumbo, currently senior VP for external affairs at Sony Electronics, will succeed Hideki Tafuku, who will be returning to Aiwa’s headquarters in Japan. Aiwa America is a subsidiary of Aiwa Co. Ltd., which is majority owned by Sony.

In his current role with Sony Electronics, Palumbo is responsible for the company’s technology standards office, its advanced wireless technology group, government and industry affairs, consumer relations and corporate privacy initiatives. Prior to that Palumbo was head of Sony’s consumer television and digital media business in the U.S. In this role he introduced the FD Trinitron WEGA and projection TVs, giving Sony a leading share of the market.

Palumbo is a member of the Consumer Electronics Association’s video board, and has served as a member of its executive board.
