Airport CE Chain Acquired

Jacksonville, Fla. — InMotion Entertainment, a CE specialty chain with nearly 80 airport shops across the country, has been acquired by a private-equity partnership.

The new owners, Bruckmann, Rosser, Sherrill & Co. (BRS) and Palladin Consumer Retail Partners, have kept management intact under CEO Jeremy Smith.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The company operates stores under the InMotion, Headphone Hub and eco-friendly Soundbalance brands, and carries a traveler-focused mix of headphones, portable audio and video players, digicams, navigation devices and rent-and-return movies.

“Consumers are increasingly shopping at retail stores in airports, and consumer electronics is one of the fastest-growing segments within airport retail,” observed Palladin CEO Mark Schwartz.

Added BRS managing director Tom Baldwin, “We have been very impressed by Jeremy and his management team, who have successfully increased the company’s market share and strengthened its position in airport retail. They have grown successfully by providing travelers with a broad selection of products and a great shopping experience.”

InMotion ranked No. 66 on TWICE’s Top 100 CE Retailers Report with $70 million in annual sales last year, up 15 percent from 2011.
