Adobe Updates PhotoShop Elements Software

San Jose, Calif. — Adobe announced new versions of its Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements software titles yesterday.

Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0 will be sold separately next month for an estimated $99 each or together in a bundle for $149.

The new version of the photo editing program adds over 100 photo frames, a new map view that lets users drag images to an online satellite map for geographically marking their memories and integration with a new Flash-based online gallery service (called Photoshop Showcase) for sharing images.

The Web service will offer virtual scrapbooking, for viewing images on flappable album pages, integration with CEIVA digital photo frames, photo stamp making in partnership with PhotoStamps.com and photo printing and bound book making from Kodak.

Several editing tools were added to the new release including a black-and-white conversion tool, an adjust color curves for tweaking exposure, and the ability to correct camera lens distortion.

Premiere Elements will feature a new monitor window for editing video in a single location with new drag-and-drop capability for adding video effects. A new sceneline view lets users rearrange video clips by dragging and dropping them at different intervals.

The software can record voice-over narration and a new stop-motion feature allows users to create time-lapse movies. Files can be burned to DVDs and exported to video iPods.
