1996 Recovery Seen In Revised AHAM Stats

A slightly larger decline in major appliance shipments this year and a modestly better recovery in 1996 are reflected in a new AHAM forecast updated from June.[text]The current outlook is for total 1995 shipments of 52.3 million, down 2.2% from last year, and an increase of 0.9% in 1996 to just under 52.8 million.

The forecast issued in June called for a 2.1% decline this year and a 0.7% rise in 1996. Moderately improved performances are now being predicted for the cooking and home comfort product categories.

For the critical core product area, the new forecast is for a shipment decline of 2.9% to just under 31.8 million, which is fractionally below what was being anticipated in June. For next year the prediction has been improved from a 1.3% increase to a 1.6% rise to 32.3 million.
