Big-Box Retailers Doubling Down On Brick-And-Mortar

Amid media declarations of a retail apocalypse, national chains like Walmart, Target, Marshalls and T.J. Maxx are building more stores to penetrate urban and smaller markets and support their e-commerce fulfillment efforts.

“One morning last month, Target’s chief executive, Brian Cornell, stood amid racks of designer T-shirts and a cooler filled with prepackaged sandwiches in a store in Midtown Manhattan. ‘This is really a symbol of the future,’ he said.”
