Wal-Mart Upping Wages, Unions Scoff

More than 1.2 million Walmart U.S. and Sam’s Club sales associates will receive a collective $2.7 billion pay raise next month that will bring the average hourly wage to $13.38 for full-time workers in what the discounter describes as one of the largest single-day, private-sector pay increases ever. But union officials say it still falls short of a living wage.

“Wal-Mart will be giving 1.2 million of its U.S. workers a pay hike next month. Starting February 20, every Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club employee hired before January 1, 2016, will earn at least $10 per hour, the company announced Wednesday.”
