Adding momentum to a growing holiday-shopping backlash, the nation’s largest shopping mall has decided for the first time to shut its doors on Thanksgiving Day, much to the relief of its retail tenants.
“Bucking the trend in recent years of Black Friday shopping encroaching into Thanksgiving, the Mall of America has decided not to open on the holiday this year. The Bloomington megamall is notifying its employees and tenants this morning that it will close the mall – including Nickelodeon Universe and even its movie theaters – on Thanksgiving Day for the first time.”
