Amazon Primed To Take Target’s Customers

Target has resumed selling Amazon’s Kindle and Fire devices this week, four years after they were shown the door. According to the author, whatever short-term gains the tablets and e-readers may afford the discounter may be more than offset by long-term customer attrition, as shoppers learn the benefits of Prime membership through these primarily Prime-centric Trojan horses.

“On October 9th, Target (NYSE: TGT) stores resumed selling Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) Kindle and Fire devices, four years after such sales were halted as Amazon became an increasingly competitive threat to Target. While this is probably good news for Target in the short term, it is also a sign of Amazon’s ever-more encroaching presence in retail.”
