For a company that once belittled brick-and-mortar as overhead, Amazon has certainly taken on plenty of it, with dozens of U.S. distribution centers and six retail stores. Tomorrow the No. 1 e-tailer will open its seventh, a 4,000-square-foot bookstore located in New York’s Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle that will feature 3,000 tomes and a dedicated section of Amazon electronics. A second Manhattan store is due near Penn Station this summer.
“Amazon’s first New York City bookstore, Amazon Books, will open on Thursday morning, marking Amazon’s highest-profile move into bricks-and-mortar retail to date. With over 3,000 titles on sale, the Columbus Circle store is one of two stores planned for the Big Apple, and six that are already open around the U.S.”
