A group representing HEVC-codec patent holders reduced its demands for royalty payments, keeping 4K video-streaming sites from switching to rival codecs, such as VP9. If the services swithced, a lot of 4K smart TVs using HEVC wouldn’t have been able to play back 4K movies from their embedded apps.
