Stewart Filmscreen President/CEO Grant Stewart Dies At 60

Stewart Filmscreen president and CEO Grant Stewart passed away this week at the age of 60, succumbing to a battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Mary, two children, and his father Pat.

A third-generation leader of Stewart Filmscreen, Grant was the grandson of Stewart Filmscreen founder Roy Stewart.

Under Grant’s leadership, the company developed groundbreaking products such as the Director’s Choice line of screens, the award-winning LuminEsse “edgeless” rigid front-projection system, and the value-positioned Cima line.

In a statement, the company said it will move forward under the direction of Grant’s cousins, Tom and Don Stewart, who will work closely with Grant’s wife to guide the day-to-day operations.

“Grant will be sorely missed by many in both his personal life and the A/V industry,” said Don Stewart, Stewart Filmscreen’s chief technology officer. “During this difficult time, we would like to thank all our employees, reps, dealers and supporters for their many years of devotion to the Stewart product line and to the Stewart family, in particular. Tuesday was a sad day in our company’s history. We have lost a great leader, an innovator in the industry, a devoted family member, and a close friend. We ask you to please keep Grant’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through the grieving process.”

He added that the company will honor Grant’s memory and wishes by continuing to build upon the rich legacy started by Roy and carried on by Grant, and by maintaining Stewart Filmscreen’s position as an industry leader in projection screen technology.

A public memorial service is not planned at this time. In lieu of flowers and other sentiments, contributions can be made in Grant Stewart’s name to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston or to the U.S. Biathlon Team in New Gloucester, Maine.
