LG Launches USTA Sponsorship

New York — LG Electronics USA revealed this week that it will be doing its part for the sport of tennis and the state of the Ultra HD market with a U.S. Open Tennis Championship sponsorship, through which it will be archiving action in native Ultra HD TV resolution.

The company, which makes and markets Ultra HD TVs in both LED LCD, and soon OLED, display technologies, said it will use the native Ultra HD tennis footage for in-store demo material, among other things.

 LG will also use the event at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., to show tennis fans its latest smartphones, TVs and other devices, as the Official Electronics Partner and Official Mobile Device Partner of the 2014 U.S. Open.

The sports showcase runs through Sept 8.

LG said fans will be able to visit the LG Winner’s Circle and engage in tennis-themed activities through interactions with the new LG G3 smartphone and LG’s OLED TVs and Ultra HD TVs.

Both new TV categories feature LG’s Smart TV+ WebOS platform that speeds up the process of finding and selecting TV programs, apps and more.

Among the Winners’ Circle activities will be:

• the “LG WebOS Challenge,” in which fans will compete against one another to answer U.S. Open-themed trivia questions using the LG Magic Remote and LG’s new WebOS-enabled smart TVs;

•        the “LG OLED Challenge” where “on court” shots can be reviewed on LG’s OLED TVs to determine if a shot is in or out by more than the 4mm thickness of the LG OLED screen,

•        a “Swing in 4K” station where fans can watch their tennis swings live on an LG’s new 84-inch Ultra HD TV; and

•        the “LG G3 Selfie Station,” where fans can pose after a winning shot and have their selfies taken using the LG G3 smartphone’s Gesture Shutter feature.

In addition, an official 2014 U.S. Open App, available now via the Google Play Store, lets users join the US Open Live Prediction Challenge presented by LG G3.

Fans can play along with the action by predicting what might happen next to earn points toward some LG prizes.

LG mobile device users will earn valuable extra points and enjoy exclusive access to the LG Leaderboard.

Spectators at the U.S. Open and fans at home will see the LG Ultra HD TV logo signage courtside in Arthur Ashe Stadium and the LG G3 signage courtside in Louis Armstrong Stadium and the Grandstand Stadium.

“LG’s innovative products help fans create fun, memorable experiences,” stated David VanderWaal, LG USA marketing head. “We’re honored to bring fans those experiences, whether it’s onsite at the US Open in New York, at home, or on-the-go through the amazing picture quality of our OLED and Ultra HD TVs and our smartphones.”
