hhgregg Names Sears Vet Chief Merchant

Indianapolis — hhgregg has named former adman and Sears exec Jeffery Haines chief merchandising officer.

Haines is the second Sears veteran to hold the post, which was filled briefly last year by ex-Sears and Circuit City senior exec Doug Moore.

Prior to Haines’ and Moore’s appointments the top merchandising duties were helmed by Michael Larimer, who returns to his original CE focus as electronics merchandising senior VP.

Haines held various senior management posts at Sears, Roebuck for 24 years, including strategic marketing VP of lawn garden, fitness and home environment. He left the chain in 2004 as strategic retail marketing VP for mall stores.

He went on to serve as president of Alliance Media, the print division of InterPublic Group’s NSA Media advertising agency. In that role, Haines oversaw print media planning, buying, and placement for Sears, Kmart, CVS and OfficeMax, and also directed the management the agency’s Wal-Mart account. He was named NSA’s CEO in 2008.

Each of the hhgregg’s merchandising departments report to Haines, who in turn reports to CEO Dennis May.
