Mahwah, N.J. - Denon has begun shipping the first in a trio of one-piece docking speakers and plans Sept. 1 shipments of its second.

The products were unveiled earlier this year as part of a new

strategy by parent D+M Group

to step up the brand's profile in such product categories as headphones and home audio products other than components.

The $499-suggested AC/DC Cocoon Portable is shipping now and will be following by the $599 Cocoon Home, expected to ship Sept. 1. Shipments of the third model, the Cocoon Junior, weren't announced.

The Cocoon Home and Cocoon Portable feature retractable iPod/iPhone/iPad dock, AirPlay, DLNA networking, Internet radio and curved styling. The Cocoon is a biamped two-way system with 100-watt output, and the portable version is 25 percent smaller and weather-resistant. The latter features full-range drivers, 50-watt output and five-hour rechargeable battery. Both also play music from USB thumb drives.

Cocoon Home is available in black or white, and Cocoon portable is available in black. Both feature glossy exterior whose clear plastic enclosure is painted from the inside. All connections are housed in a solid metal base.

CocoonHome features biamplified speaker system, four drivers rated at 25 watts each, DSP, and nine bands of digital equalization.

Cocoon Portable features water-resistant construction, two full-range drivers tuned for outdoor usage, oversized rubberized buttons, a special rubberized back panel cover, integrated carry handle and a retractable slot for the included remote control.
