George Sherman, who held senior service roles at Best Buy and The Home Depot, has joined authorized Verizon retailer A Wireless as CEO.

In his new post, Sherman will preside over a billion-dollar chain with 1,140 locations across 46 states. Founded by executive chairman Rich Balot as a college freshman in 1996, the company is one of only six National Premium Retailers designated by Verizon Wireless, which also named it 2016 Partner of the Year.

Sherman joined the business from Advance Auto Parts, where he was president and interim CEO. Before that he was president of Best Buy’s services unit and senior VP of global services, and similarly served as president of Home Depot’s services division and as operations senior VP.

The former U.S. Air Force officer began his retail career at Target, where he was a regional VP and later store operations senior VP for the company’s Mervyn’s department store wing.

“We are thrilled to have George join A Wireless as our new CEO,” said Balot. “He is a proven leader who has delivered outstanding results, and is known for placing people and culture as a top priority.”
