The Watch List is an ongoing series that focuses on CE start-ups reaching out to consumers via crowdfunding and other non-traditional methods.
The ThingCharger is an all-in-one charging solution with swappable tips and storage. It’s priced less than $30 on Indiegogo.
Selling Point: Wall outlets with built-in USB ports aren’t enough. My counter looks exactly like the spaghetti mess in the video, and I know I’m not the only one.
The Core from Mass Fidelity is a portable Bluetooth speaker with gesture control, AAC and AptX technology, optical and control inputs, and NFC. It’s not cheap (one speaker is $389 on Indiegogo), but its maker is emphasizing its powerful sound rather than its portability (which it also has).
Selling Point: Pocket-sized Bluetooth speakers abound on crowdfunding sites (and everywhere else), but this one gets points for its extreme one-button multi-device linking (up to nine speakers). The gesture control is really cool too.
The Conduct is hopping on the DIY home-automation bandwagon and reinventing the light switch with its plug-in transmitter and receiver combo, currently in progress on Quirky. The plastic pair lets users control multiple devices with a single light switch, or alter the switch current used for a light. So, for example, you could turn on the fan in your basement from the kitchen.
Selling Point: Home automation kept super simple.
