Hi-Def: Value-Added Or Just Added?

New York — Wired takes a unique look at how hi-def film is changing television production at NBC’s “30 Rock.”

For me, the article brought me back to the question of whether or not HD video, despite all the hype, is really worth the expense. Do consumers really benefit from having the ability to pause their TV shows (via DVR) so they can more clearly read dummy text on props? Perhaps I’m just not enough of a purist but I’m coming to the conclusion that I can probably live without a close-up of Tina Fey’s latest blemish or wrinkle. I guess the real question is whether or not anything of value is being added to the user’s experience with HD video?

Maybe it’s just me. After all, “value” means something different to everyone, right?
