CanJam & Opera: Headphones Briefs

It’s never a slow moment in the headphones category.

The 2013 CanJam will be at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver this week, the fifth annual gathering of audiophiles hosted by Head-Fi.

Audeze announced today that it will launch two high-end headphones to the crowd of self-professed “audio geeks” at the show. The LCD-X and LCD-XC planar magnetic headphones carry price tags of $1,699 and $1,799, respectively. The former has an open-reference design while the latter is a closed-back model. They come with either lambskin leather or leather-free micro suede headband and ear pads.

Meanwhile, Sennheiser, which is also scheduled to exhibit at CanJam, announced it is collaborating with the L.A. Dance Project and The Industry production company for “Invisible Cities,” described as “the world’s first large-scale opera for wireless headphones.”

Audience members will listen to the opera using Sennheiser’s RS 120 wireless headphones and will be allowed to move throughout the venue during the performance. The production, which will premiere Oct. 19 at Union Station in Los Angeles, will also employ the company’s microphones, wireless audio systems and in-ear monitors.
