Vizio Expands LCD Lineup

Vizio used a press preview here last month to introduce a new 55-inch screen size to its a high-performance XVT LCD TV line, and revealed shipping plans for several high-resolution, smaller-screen LCD TV offerings, timed for holiday distribution.

The company also presented an add-on speaker bar designed for any flat-panel TV, featuring virtual surround-sound enhancement developed by SRS Labs.

The 55-inch VF550XVT1A, which is slated to ship in January at a $1,999 suggested retail, will offer Full HD 1080p resolution and 120Hz Smooth Motion Video frame-rate technology. The set is said to have a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and includes nine HD inputs, SRS TruSurround sound and SRS TruVolume sound-leveling technologies.

This VF550XVT1A displays 1.7 billion colors on a 10-bit data input panel, with a 5ms response time.

Vizio said the set uses an advanced polarizer for less reflectivity and meets the Energy Star 3.0 criteria. In “Home Mode,” the set is said to achieve an additional 15 percent power savings.

To further improve sound, Vizio said it will offer in January a sound-bar speaker system and wireless subwoofer (model VSB210WS). Designed to be added on to most flat-panel TV models, the sound bar is styled to complement the look of flat-panel TVs while eliminating the clutter of multiple speakers, Vizio said.

The VSB210WS, which ships in January at a $349 suggested retail, uses four 3-inch high-efficiency mid/bass drivers and a single 1-inch high-performance aluminum dome neodymium tweeter for each channel. Total harmonic distortion is said to be less than 0.01 percent.

It incorporates SRS TruSurround for immersive surround sound and is one of the first products to include SRS Labs’ TruVolume, which prevents extreme volume fluctuations when changing channels or watching commercials.

The subwoofer uses a 2.4GHz wireless connection to link with the speaker and features a long-throw 6.5-inch woofer with a bass response from 35Hz up to 80Hz. An auto-sync function quickly connects the subwoofer the sound bar. The integrated package requires only a SPDIF optical cable connection or a single pair of RCA left/right channel connections to the TV.

The Vizio VSB210WS sound bar with wireless subwoofer will be available in January 2009 at a $349 suggested retail.

New small-screen LCD TV offerings ready now for the holidays and the digital TV transition include the 19-inch VA19 ($249), the 22-inch VA22LF ($349) and the 26-inch VA26 ($449).

All offer 16:9 widescreen aspect ratios and use a new industrial design style. The VA22 is said to be Vizio’s smallest Full HD 1080p LCD TV. It produces a 5,000:1 contrast ratio.

All models incorporate advanced polarizers to reduce screen reflectivity and meet the latest Energy Star version 3.0 standards. All three models are available now.

The company also showed a 25.5-inch viewable Full HD 1080p multimedia monitor. Model VMM26 is designed for a range of uses from a PC display to a gaming monitor.

The VMM26, which is shipping now at a $429 suggested retail, has a 25.5-inch, 16:9 screen; displays 16.7 million colors; and produces 1,920 by 1,200 resolution.

A built-in stand is height adjustable. The design also offers tilt functions of 5 degrees forward and 20 degrees back along with a built in swivel stand for optimal viewing in large spaces.

Also added are illuminated touch controls that enable on/off and picture adjustments by touching the bottom of the screen to activate the monitor’s menues.
