Vidikron Expands Line With 3 PDPs

Moving to expand its product line from two previously announced DLP projectors, Vidikron unveiled three high-performance 16:9 plasma display monitors at CEDIA Expo.

The panels are part of Vidikron’s new PlasmaView Series and include the 42W-inch EDTV VP-42 with 852 by 480 resolution ($5,995 suggested retail), the 50W-inch HD VP-50 with 1,366 by 768 resolution ($11,995 suggested) and the 60W-inch HD VP-60 with 1,366 by 768 resolution ($19.995 suggested). All three will ship to dealers in October.

PlasmaView models include a Runco/Vidikron engineered video processing system that delivers high brightness, contrast and black-level performances, the company said. The technology includes the company’s new Dynamic Pixel Protection circuitry, which helps to protect the plasma panel from stationary image burn-in.

The built-in video processing system uses 3:2 film detection circuitry, for virtually artifact-free presentation of lower-resolution (even NTSC) film-based source material. All models feature multiple aspect ratio controls including Vidikron’s IntelliWide mode, which preserves image quality while presenting standard video formats in widescreen mode.

All three models feature discrete IR and RS-232 controls to simplify custom installation applications, while discrete source and aspect ratio selection provide an easy-to-use interface for automation control systems. Mounting options include a tabletop stand or wall-mounting kit.

Runco/Vidikron sales and marketing VP Ben Jamison said the rollout of the Vidikron line is progressing rapidly, with about 100 dealers expected to sign on by October.

Additionally, the product line will be expanded further before the end of the year, he said.
