Ultra-Thin Cyber-Shot Debuts

In other product announcements, Sony unveiled a new ultra-thin digital camera in the Cyber-shot DSC-T7. The pocket-sized camera measures just over one-third-inch thick and features a 2.5-inch “hybrid” LCD screen, covering about two-thirds of the back of the camera. Resolution is rated at 5.1 effective megapixels.

It also includes a 3x optical zoom lens using Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses.

The camera is ready to capture images in just under one second by sliding the front lens cover down.

The T7’s 10-scene selection modes offer easy camera settings for a wide variety of conditions. Meanwhile, a “Real Imaging Processor” offers fast shooting speeds, allowing full-resolution images at approximately one-second intervals. The included InfoLithium battery gets about 180 shots per charge. The camera stores images to Memory Stick PRO Duo media cards, and can shoot 30 fps video clips at 640 by 480 resolution.

The Cyber-shot DSC-T7 camera will ship in May at a $500 suggested retail price.
