Sega Cuts Dreamcast Price To $50

Looking to feed holiday demand for video game systems, Sega of America lowered the suggested retail price on remaining Dreamcast video game consoles to $49.95, from the previous $79.95.

Sega is selling off remaining inventory for the console, as it bows out of the console business to focus exclusively on developing video game software for Dreamcast and other manufacturers’ consoles.

The game developer said the price cut gives holiday shoppers “a great value,” explaining that the Dreamcast video game library now numbers more than 200 titles, including popular franchises such as “Sonic Adventure 2,” “Phantasy Star Online,” “Sega Sports NFL 2K2” and others.

Sega said it is on track to sell through all remaining Dreamcast units this year.
