Pioneer Adds Netbook DVD/CD Burner

Long Beach, Calif. – Pioneer Electronics has introduced
a slim portable DVD/CD writer that targets the growing netbook market.

Model DVR-XD09 is said to offer the
industry’s most compact design to date, weighing 8 ounces, with an overall size
that is slightly larger than a music CD case.

The writer connects to a PC via a
USB 2.0 port and supports writing to dual-layer DVD-R media.

The DVR-XD09 ships in August at a
$79.99 suggested retail.

“With more than three decades of
optical disc advancements, we are excited to once again modernize the DVD/CD
computer writer category with our new drive that combines high-capacity, high-quality
performance in one of the world’s most slender form factors,” said Steve Cohn, Pioneer
Electronics USA optical sales director.

According to research firm
DisplaySearch, shipments of netbooks are estimated to reach nearly 33 million
worldwide in 2009.

Supported media includes DVD-R/+R
SL (up to 8x read and 8x write), DVD-R/+R DL (6x and 8x), DVD+RW SL (6x and 8x),
DVD-ROM SL (8x), DVD-ROM DL, DVD-RAM (5x and 5x), CD-R (24x and 24x), and CD-RW
(24x and 24x).
