InFocus, a leading supplier of digital video projectors for the corporate and institutional channels, recently started shipping the first projector it will sell for the home-theater video-projector market.
The InFocus LS110 is a front projector based on Texas Instrument’s 4:3 LP530 enhanced definition Digital Light Processor (DLP), capable of reproducing DTV formats at the equivalent of 480p format scan rates. It has a $4,999 suggested retail price.
InFocus said the small, lightweight projector has been optimized for home theater video display, offering high levels of contrast and color saturation with quiet operation.
In addition to the DLP chip, the LS110 employs DCDi video image enhancement technology from Faroudja.
The company teamed with Faroudja two years ago on a video projector that Faroudja distributed for the home theater specialty trade, but the new model marks InFocus’ attempt to break into the home theater business under its own distribution effort.
“The convergence of digital media content and consumer electronics technology is rapidly creating projection category growth opportunities for InFocus,” said Scott Hix, InFocus business development VP.
“By working closely with technology partners and applying our extensive digital projection expertise, InFocus has designed a home entertainment projector that delivers an incredible viewing experience for everything from the latest DVD movie to digital photos of last summer’s vacation,” said Hix.
The projected image from the LS110 can be scaled from 60 inches (diagonal) to 300 inches depending on room or audience size.
The image can also be adjusted from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a widescreen movie with 16:9 aspect ratio.
