LG Launches Google TVs With Regionals

NEW YORK –
LG Electronics USA’s two-model Google
TV line, which was first introduced at International
CES last January, hits select
retail stores this week.
The so-called G2-series models are
offered in the 47- ($1,700 suggested retail)
and 55-inch ($2,300) screen sizes.
They offer FullHD 1080p resolution,
LED edge lighting, 120Hz refresh rates,
Cinema 3D passive glasses-based 3D
capability and a silver-tone thin-bezel design
style that will distinguish the class
from other 2012 LG sets.
LG is launching the Google TV sets
through select online retail partners, including
Amazon, and key regional retail
accounts across the country.
Both models have advanced response
times thanks to the implementation
of a new L9 dual-core processing
chipset based on the ARM architecture
with a quad-core graphics processing
unit (GPU). The chipset powers the TV’s
Google TV search function across the
web and live TV selections available on a connected
multichannel TV service provider.
LG has also worked to simplify the user interface while
expanding the number of pre-installed apps that appear
on the home screen from competitive Google TV products.
The sets include LG’s five-mode
Magic Remote with QWERTY keyboard
and built-in mic to accept voice
The Magic Remote responds
to gesture-based commands like
an air mouse, similar to a Wii remote,
and offers scrolling. The
voice-recognition system engages
simplified search capabilities and
entering text in search terms by
speaking to speed up the browsing
A Wheel feature on the remote
enables quick scrolling through web
pages, menus and applications.
