Samsung Teams Up with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer to Benefit Childhood Cancer Research

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Samsung Electronics America, Inc., America’s fastest growing home appliance brand1, announced today that it is donating 26 of its freestanding electric ranges (NE595R0ABSR) to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer’s second annual Chefs for Kids’ Cancer benefit. The event is being held at The Waterfront in New York City, where a sold-out crowd will savor exquisite multi-course meals prepared by nearly 50 of New York City’s top chefs, including 15 James Beard Award nominees/winners and 10 Michelin-starred restaurant chefs. Each chef will prepare their signature dishes on Samsung’s freestanding electric ranges for the guests and all proceeds from the event will go toward the fight against pediatric cancer.

Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease of children in the United States2. Founded in 2008 by Gretchen and Larry Witt, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer honors the couple’s son Liam who tragically passed away in 2011 after a four-year battle with the disease. The organization is committed to funding research for pediatric cancer treatments through community bake sales and their online cookie store. Last year’s gala raised nearly $1 million, which was immediately put to work on funding research nationwide.

“We were proud to participate in the Chefs for Kids’ benefit last year, and we’ve watched and been inspired by the amazing work that this organization does raising awareness and much-needed funds,” said John Herrington, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung is honored to once again support their continued efforts for the second year in a row in the name of fighting pediatric cancer.”

The Samsung freestanding electric range (NE595R0ABSR) offers a sophisticated level of oven control, flexibility and cooking precision to meet the meal preparation needs of today’s home chefs. The 5.9. cu. ft. extra-large oven easily accommodates a big roast, multiple casserole dishes or several racks of cookies to feed even the largest group of hungry guests. The oven is equipped with Samsung True Convection which ensures heat is distributed evenly throughout the cavity, so cooks can rest assured that dishes are cooked thoroughly each and every time. On the cooktop, consumers enjoy the flexibility of five different-sized burners; whether boiling water, melting chocolate or simmering sauce, there’s a burner to suit any need. Additionally, the Dual Fast Boil element boils water quickly to save time when cooking.

Event co-chairs and chefs, Jonathan Benno (Lincoln Ristorante) and Dan Kluger (former chef of ABC Kitchen/Cocina), have called upon an outstanding team of world-renowned chefs for the evening, including Michael Anthony (Gramercy Tavern), Andrew Carmellini (The Dutch), Alex Guarnaschelli (Butter), Matt Rudofker (Momofuku Ssam Bar) and Eli Kaimeh (Per Se).Pastry Chair Christina Tosi(Momofuku Milk Bar) assembled a team of pastry chefs who will each contribute a special cookie, while highly sought-after NYC mixologist Julie Reiner (Flatiron Lounge and Clover Club) will mix cocktails using spirits sourced from small batch distilleries in New York State donated by Brian Facquet (Prohibition Distillery).

While the event is sold out, those who wish to support Cookies for Kids’ Cancer can make a donation, purchase cookies online, or host a bake sale.
