KeyMe Rolls Out Next Generation Kiosks with New Functionality, Including Car Keys, and Expands Retail Footprint

Hundreds of New Kiosks to Debut, with concentration in NY Metro Area, Beginning in November;

 Save and Copy Keys in 30 Seconds at Locations Including Select 7-Eleven and Rite Aid Stores

October 27, 2014, New York, NY – KeyMe, the rapidly growing NYC based company that is revolutionizing the locksmith industry, today announced that the company’s new retail kiosks are going to be deployed in over 100 locations across the U.S. before the end of the year, including over 20 locations in the metro NYC area beginning in November.  The kiosks make frustrating and expensive lockouts a thing of the past by enabling customers to safely store a “digital copy” of their keys in the cloud and easily create a spare copy in under 30 seconds.

The new kiosks will be able to copy car keys, both with transponder chips and those without. This is an industry game-changer as this is the first time car keys have ever been able to be copied at a self-service kiosk.  Historically, consumers have been forced to go to a dealer and often pay hundreds of dollars for the replacement or duplicate.  This revolutionary technology allows KeyMe to scan car keys at the kiosk, read the transponder, and ship a copy (with tracking code) in under two days.  Prices start at $19.99 for non-transponder keys and $64.99 for transponder keys.

In addition to cars, KeyMe can support most home, office and mailbox keys.  Traditional key duplication services have 10-15% error rates when attempting to replicate these keys as a result of their “tracing” methodology.  KeyMe’s advanced digital imaging technology resets keys to the factory specifications, adjusting for wear and tear and resulting in a key that’s more accurate than the original, another value-add for customers in addition to the ease of convenience.

These next generation kiosks are also integrated with the popular and free KeyMe mobile app, creating a seamless multi-platform experience – keys can be saved, accessed and then printed at the kiosks or via mail.  The KeyMe iOS mobile app has hundreds of thousands of customers storing their keys and a new Android app is set to be released in November.

To access a digitally-saved key at a kiosk, it just takes a fingerprint scan to verify identity, at which point any saved key can be easily printed in under 30 seconds. These saved keys can also be shared with family and friends via email at both the kiosk and through the mobile app.

Additional kiosk features include a completely redesigned user interface and more personalization options such as key skins featuring NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and major college sports team and popular characters including Mickey Mouse, Darth Vader and Hello Kitty; and  new custom designs, including a bottle opener key and an ultra-light high performance key.  Keys start at $3.99 and vary based on the type of key.

Due to the overwhelming success and popularity of the pilot kiosk program, KeyMe will be expanding with existing and new channel partners, including 7-Eleven and Rite Aid.  The larger kiosk network will place a KeyMe kiosk within a mile of more than 1.5M people in the metro NYC area.  A complete list of confirmed locations will be coming soon.

“This expansion of KeyMe across New York City, and ultimately the country, demonstrates the enormous consumer demand for our kiosks. We are copying tens of thousands of keys monthly, making us one of the largest key duplicators in the region,” said Greg Marsh, CEO of KeyMe.  “To date, we have saved our customers hundreds of thousands of dollars in emergency lockout fees. With our next generation kiosks and new locations, we will make it even easier to get a highly accurate copy of any key type, including car and house keys in the most convenient, secure way possible.”

KeyMe kiosks are the most secure way to copy keys, utilizing biometrics and other user verification processes to ensure the highest safety and control in the industry.  Furthermore, the company does not store personal information, such as addresses, which could be used to link key data with a location or lock.  KeyMe enables customers to save keys in the cloud, making them always accessible and eliminating the need for a physical key in order to make a copy. Once a “digital key” is stored, users don’t have to worry about lockouts and paying hundreds of dollars for an emergency locksmith visit.
