Consumer Cellular Celebrates Two Millionth Customer

PORTLAND, Ore. (October 30, 2015) – Consumer Cellular, the mobile carrier with the highest overall customer satisfaction according to Nielsen Mobile Insights, yesterday presented a $2 million check to the Knight Cancer Challenge. The gift, which was pledged in June 2015, marks the challenge’s largest corporate donation and was delivered in honor of Consumer Cellular’s two millionth customer. The company hit the customer milestone earlier this week.

“On behalf of our employees, and two million customers who trust us with their service, we are excited to be joining the many donors making a commitment to end cancer,” said John Marick, CEO of Consumer Cellular. “We are inspired by early advancements being made by Dr. Druker and his team at the Knight Cancer Institute. We look forward to the day when we can point back and say we were part of ending cancer as we know it.”

The Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University lead by Dr. Druker, launched an unprecedented effort to find smarter, faster ways to detect cancer when the disease is most curable. That effort received a tremendous boost in June 2015, when OHSU completed the Knight Cancer Challenge, raising $500 million in gifts and pledges to earn a matching gift from Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny.

In celebration of the June donation pledge, Consumer Cellular surprised more than 1,000 cancer doctors and patients across the country with gifts during the company’s “Live Inspired” social media campaign intended to encourage those who inspire us all in their fight against cancer. The most recent gift was a donation of one toy for every child at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

“Over the past 20 years, we have celebrated company milestones by giving back,” said Marick. “Those donations, and the check we wrote today, wouldn’t have been possible without our customers. We’re thrilled to be honoring them through these impactful gifts.”

The company, founded in 1995 in Portland, Ore., has experienced an average of 35 percent revenue growth year over year since 2006. Consumer Cellular is expected to hit $650 million in revenue this year and $1 billion by 2018.
