Irving, Texas – JVC Kenwood struck an agreement to buy EF Johnson Technologies as part of a strategic initiative to increase its focus on professional communications, particularly in the U.S. public-safety market, EF Johnson announced.
In the U.S., Kenwood USA’s communications sector offers two-way mobile and portable radios for public safety, government, business and industry. It also offers amateur radios.

Wayne, N.J. – JVC recently announced a series of promotional activities planned to support its lines of “quad-proof” (water, shock, dust, cold) Adixxion and Everio camcorders.
Promotional activities will include a providing Adixxion cameras for activies with K2 Sports, a TV sponsorship targeting outdoor enthusiasts, providing cameras to an AirBnB-sponosored film, and participation in one of the country’s largest snow sports trade shows, the company said.
Long Beach – Keith Lehmann, who oversees the Kenwood and JVC car audio brands, is leaving JVC Kenwood and will not represent the company at International CES, company sources confirmed.
Kenwood sales VP David Hoag will take over Lehmann’s position as Kenwood executive VP of consumer electronics on an interim basis. It wasn’t known who will take over Lehmann’s responsibilities as senior VP of JVC Mobile Entertainment.
Long Beach, Calif. – Three of four single-DIN CD-receivers debuting from JVC Mobile Entertainment are the company’s first CD-receivers to control the iHeart Radio app on a USB-connected iPhone.
Control of iHeart had been available only in navigation-equipped head units from JVC.
The four new CD-receivers, priced from a suggested $104.95 to $129.95, ship in December. The three models that control the iHeart app also control Pandora running on a USB-connected iPhone. The opening price for Pandora control in CD-receivers remains unchanged at $104.95.
Wayne, N.J. — JVC said it will partner with K2 Sports to place JVC Adixxion action video cameras with K2 pro skiers and snowboarders.
K2, a supplier of ski and snowboarding gear, has a roster of professional skiers and snowboarders using its equipment.
JVC Americas said video of K2’s pros in action “is a major component of the company’s online and social-media activity.”
Long Beach, Calif. - JVC Mobile Entertainment announced organizational changes on the eve of dealer and distributor meetings where the company will unveil new products and new business policies.
The organizational changes include the promotion of Ron Trout from western regional sales manager to national sales manager. Trout will oversee all distribution and specialist accounts.
Denver — JVC unveiled at CEDIA Expo 2013 here Thursday the next iterations of its Ultra HD home-theater projectors incorporating the next phase in its E-shift up-scaling technology, E-shift3, which offers substantial improvements in image quality, according to the company.
JVC said the overall picture-quality performance boost is also driven by a new D-ILA imaging device and a user-selectable Intelligent Lens Aperture, which combine to produce some of the industry’s highest dynamic contrast and black levels.
Long Beach, Calif. – Chad Vogelsong, a 17-year JVC veteran, is leaving as marketing GM of JVC’s car entertainment division.
Vogelsong, whose last day is Sept. 6, said he plans to get involved in a new endeavor that he didn’t disclose.
Irvine, Calif. — AmTran Video, licensee of the JVC brand for larger-screen TVs, said Thursday it is giving away a JVC 47-inch SL47B-C BlackSapphire Razor-Edge E-LED LCD TV this month as part of a social-media product giveaway program.
The SL47B-C is distinguished by an ultra-thin-bezel design that makes the picture appear to almost float in the air, the company said.
The FullHD 1080p LCD TV comes with onboard Dolby Digital decoding and XinemaSound 3D audio.
New York — AmTran Video has added four SKUs to its JVC-branded BlackSapphire Razor-Edge E-LED HDTV line for shipment this summer.
Two of the models are in the fully featured SL line: the 42-inch SL42B-C and 47-inch SL47B-C models, which feature a nearly borderless image, the thickness of an iPhone, XinemaSound 3D audio, built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, ICE smart-TV apps and a QWERTY keypad remote control, as well as passive 3D with four free pairs of XinemaView 3D glasses.
The SL42B-C and SL47B-C will ship this summer for $799 and $899 suggested retails, respectively.
