New York — Harman International will open its first U.S. store on Nov. 22 to demonstrate its home, aftermarket car and pro audio products and sell select home audio gear to consumers.
The two-level, 8,500-square-foot store on Madison Avenue in Manhattan will also serve as “a key showroom and experience center for our channel and technology partners and for our automotive OEM customers to get a full brand experience,” said Michael Mauser, president/executive VP of the Harman lifestyle division.
Stamford, Conn. – Harman International started off its 2014 fiscal year with double-digit sales gains in all three of its operating divisions, but consolidated net income fell 15 percent from the year-ago period to $46 million.
Consolidated sales rose 17 percent (including currency changes) to $1.17 billion, with operating income falling 12 percent to $69 million in the quarter, which ended Sept. 30.
Berlin — Nine audio products unveiled here at IFA by Harman include Harman Kardon’s highest priced soundbar to date at an everyday $999 and Harman Kardon’s first tabletop speaker with Bluetooth, AirPlay, DLNA and Wi-Fi.
The $999 soundbar, called Sabre, is promoted as the world’s thinnest soundbar, with a 1.26-inch depth.
The selection of new products also includes a second Harman Kardon soundbar, portable Harman Kardon Bluetooth speaker, a JBL Bluetooth speaker, a JBL PC speaker system, one Harman Kardon headphone and two AKG headphones.
Stamford, Conn. –Harman reports that home audio and multimedia products grew 17 percent in the company’s fiscal third quarter ending March 31.
Chairman Dinesh Paliwal said operating margins hit the high single digits in the three-month and nine-month periods, but did not reveal specific dollar volumes.
Paliwal did note the segment’s nine-month operating margin hit a record-high 8 percent. He also said he expects full-year home/multimedia sales to be “close to $600 million.”

Stamford, Conn. — Harman International Industries announced it has acquired iOnRoad Technologies, maker of the augmented-reality driving app with the same name.
The app runs on a variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows and Linux, and is expected to help Harman strengthen its “leadership in global infotainment systems and services for leading automakers, and accelerate the rollout of new [advanced driver assistance system] functionalities,” Harman said.
Stamford, Conn. — Harman International Industries reported lower sales and income during its fiscal first quarter, ended Dec. 31, 2012, and said it would issue layoffs of 500 employees.
Net sales for the second quarter were $1.056 billion, a decrease of 6 percent compared with the same period last year. In local currency, net sales decreased by 4 percent compared with the same period last year, primarily as a result of the economic slow-down in Europe, which significantly impacted automotive production.
