LAS VEGAS – It all begins with an idea, and possibly just seeing what others don’t. This was the common theme at Tuesday’s Next Generation of Innovators keynote at the 2013 International CES.

“Innovation is the hallmark of our industry,” said Michael Petricone, senior vice president of government affairs for the Consumer Electronics Association. “It defines everything we do.

“At CES we are at the absolute epicenter of innovation,” he added. “CES is a magnet for the best and the brightest.”

LAS VEGAS — Gary Shapiro, president/CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) gave a rousing speech to a packed ballroom, championing innovation as the cure for many of America’s ills.

Shapiro said, “Innovation is our best hope for growth, jobs and advancement of the human condition. As we debate how government should tax and spend, we can agree that encouraging innovation is a strategy that helps economic growth which reduces budget deficits and is good for nations and people.”

LAS VEGAS — CE, IT and gaming distributor New Age Electronics has added Kindle and Beats by Dr. Dre to its lineup for this year.

New Age, a division of Synnex, has been authorized by Amazon.com to distribute its complete family of Kindle products and accessories including Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD.

New Age is the second distributor tapped by Amazon to dispense its best-selling tablet and e-reader line.

LAS VEGAS — HMDX is showing off its Jam Fusion Bluetooth headphones at International CES this week.

The headphones, which are the company’s first, feature a pairing button that lets users connect to a second pair of headphones for music sharing. They have a rechargeable battery that provides up to six hours of playtime when fully charged. Several colors will be offered.

Pricing wasn’t available at press time.

LAS VEGAS – Audi and Nvidia announced today that the carmakers latest infotainment system will be based on a Tegra processor.

The Audi modular infotainment system (MIS) will be found in the Audi A3 become available in the United States and Canada next year. It is already on the market in Europe.

The MIS is based on the Nvidia Tegra Visual Computing Module. This system will deliver a wide range of online data to the car, including Google Street View 360, Google Earth, and local information like weather and local gas prices.

LAS VEGAS — ViewSonic today expanded its new Smart Display computer line, and added several new touchscreen monitors and a 4K Ultra HD display at International CES.

The 24-inch VSD240 Smart Display, which joins the previously announced VSD220, is a 24-inch display that shares many features with a very large tablet or an all-in-one PC. However, ViewSonic prefers to refer to these products as secondary monitors.

The VSD240 will carry a $499 price tag and ship in April. The 22-inch VSD220 shipped in October at $399.

Las Vegas – Sprint will join its largest rivals in offering Windows Phone 8 smartphones, launching one HTC model and one Samsung model in the summer, the carrier announced at International CES.

The phones will feature 4G LTE and will be available for use with the carrier’s unlimited-data plans.

Both Windows phones will feature dual cameras,dual-core processors, and expandable memory. Additional details were not released.

LAS VEGAS — Ford called on developers to help enhance its Sync service by launching an open mobile app development program for AppLink.

During its International CES press conference, here, on Monday the Ford Developer Program, which can be found at Developer.Ford.com, was unveiled.

It provides a software development kit, documentation, sample code, test procedures, tips, an online forum and tech support. Developers who don’t own a Ford Sync system can purchase a technology development kit.

Las Vegas -- Cisco Systems said it has integrated the multiscreen-video elements of NDS -- which it acquired for $5 billion last year -- into Videoscape Unity, an expanded version of the video services delivery platform Cisco launched two years ago at CES.
