Irving, Texas – JVC Kenwood struck an agreement to buy EF Johnson Technologies as part of a strategic initiative to increase its focus on professional communications, particularly in the U.S. public-safety market, EF Johnson announced.
In the U.S., Kenwood USA’s communications sector offers two-way mobile and portable radios for public safety, government, business and industry. It also offers amateur radios.

Las Vegas – Kenwood sales VP Dave Hoag has been promoted to senior VP, responsible for sales and marketing.
The nine-year Kenwood veteran replaces 10-year Kenwood veteran Keith Lehmann, who recently left the company as executive VP.
Lehmann was also senior VP of JVC Mobile Entertainment, but parent company JVC Kenwood Americas hasn’t said whether it will fill that position.
Long Beach – Keith Lehmann, who oversees the Kenwood and JVC car audio brands, is leaving JVC Kenwood and will not represent the company at International CES, company sources confirmed.
Kenwood sales VP David Hoag will take over Lehmann’s position as Kenwood executive VP of consumer electronics on an interim basis. It wasn’t known who will take over Lehmann’s responsibilities as senior VP of JVC Mobile Entertainment.
Long Beach, Calif. – Kenwood has begun shipping three CD-receivers, one new digital media receiver (DMR), a new marine CD-receiver, and a marine CD-receiver/speaker combo.
All products feature the company’s new Drive EQ technology, which compensates for road or marine noise by boosting output at select frequencies. All head units feature 4x50-watt maximum amplification.
Long Beach, Calif. — Kenwood Electronics co-founder William Kasuga died July 5. He was 98.
Kasuga, known throughout the industry as Bill, was a member of the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame and was honored by the Consumer Electronics Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. He had stepped down as chairman of Kenwood USA in 1995.
Long Beach, Calif. – Greater differentiation between the Kenwood and JVC car electronics lines, a refocusing of the JVC marketing department on supporting sell-in and sell-though, and other select changes are on the horizon now that Kenwood’s Keith Lehmann has taken on the additional role of senior VP at JVC Mobile Entertainment.
At JVC, Lehmann is taking charge of JVC Mobile sales, marketing and business strategy. At Kenwood, whose car electronics sales exceed JVC’s, Lehmann’s title changes to executive VP of consumer electronics from senior VP.

The new effort will include additional vendor participation in its “X Rewards” sell-through promotion, a new customer database development program, video-based training content and deeper involvement in social media and online solutions forums.
Long Beach, Calif. – Kenwood will go to International CES with two in-dash navigation systems with embedded Wi-Fi to access cloud-based services via a Wi-Fi-equipped smartphone or via a pocket-size mobile Wi-Fi hot spot.
The head units will use Wi-Fi to:
