Foster City, Calif. — Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) revealed Tuesday that the PlayStation3 (PS3) has become the world’s leading platform for viewing Netflix movies on a television and is now “the primary development platform” for the Internet video service.

Foster City, Calif. — Sony released cumulative sales numbers for the PlayStation3 console, showing 70 million units worldwide as of Nov. 4.

The milestone comes less than six years after the platform’s launch in 2006.

Sony is catching up to chief rival Microsoft, which recently announced the same number of sales for the Xbox 360.

Nintendo leads the pack, with sales of an estimated 96 million Wii consoles since 2006.

With the Ultimate PS3 Value Bundle, the PS3 is now available for $199.99 – breaking the $200 threshold – at leading retailers until inventory is sold out.
