Boston — Price wars are breaking out among U.S. cellular carriers, but carriers’ subscriber shares won’t change much between 2014 through 2018, Strategy Analytics contends in a new research report.
In fact, the carrier that started it all — T-Mobile — will show little subscriber-share gains through 2018 because of high churn rates, the report concludes.
In other findings, the research and consulting company forecast that continued growth in U.S. net subscriber additions through 2018.

Bedminster, N.J. — Verizon Wireless grew its operating income by 30 percent in the fourth quarter and 19.4 percent for the year on single-digit gains in operating revenue in both periods.
The operating-income gains came from rising operating margins, rising average revenue per account, an expanded subscriber base, and a growing base of 4G LTE subscribers, whose data consumption rises as they switch to faster 4G phones.
Bloomington, Ill. — Verizon Wireless will open its first Verizon Destination Store on Wednesday and plans to open more Destination Stores over the next few years in iconic high-traffic locations across the country, the carrier announced.
The first Destination Store, which covers 9,715 square feet, opens 7 p.m. Wednesday here at the Mall of America. The next Destination Stores open next year in Chicago and Houston.
Basking Ridge, N.J. — Verizon Wireless’ first Verizon-brand tablet, the $249 7-inch Ellipsis 7, will be available Nov. 7 through Verizon’s direct and indirect channels.
The carrier positioned the LTE-equipped Android 4.2.2 tablet as “a fully featured tablet at an affordable price.”
The device, exclusive to Verizon, is the first product from Verizon in the Ellipsis family. “The Ellipsis family will not be limited to only tablets,” a spokesman told TWICE.

Verizon reported in the third quarter and first nine months of its fiscal year and posted operating-revenue gains in both periods even though net new retail subscriber additions fell at double-digit percentage rates in both periods.
Operating income margins rose during the quarter and nine-month periods, though churn rates also ticked up, and average revenue per account continued to rise.
Basking Ridge, N.J. — Verizon Wireless became the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer same-day delivery of cellphones and other products ordered on a carrier website.
The carrier has begun a pilot program in Philadelphia and, “in the near future,” plans to offer same-day delivery in New York City, Dallas, San Francisco and Pittsburgh. For the service, the carrier is shipping from Verizon-owned stores near the purchaser.
New York — Verizon Wireless has introduced a 4G LTE broadband router with voice, which is said to combine voice and data connectivity over the carrier’s networks in one package.
There are three monthly plans to choose from: voice only ($20), data only ($20), or voice and data ($30), when added to a Share Everything Plan. Customers have the flexibility to move among the three different plans at any time, the carrier said.
Basking Ridge, N.J. – Verizon Wireless joined T-Mobile and AT&T in announcing a price and availability date for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet.
The carrier also announced a price and availability date for Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
Verizon is taking Note 3 preorders on its web site for Oct. 10 shipping of the white and black versions at a price of $299 with two-year contract. A bundle consisting of the Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear Smart watch retails for $599 and also ships Oct. 10.
