Ann Arbor, Mich. — Verizon led all TV providers for overall customer satisfaction in the most recent annual American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).
It was the fourth year in a row that Verizon had achieved the feat. DirecTV, which finished second overall, said it also took top spots in seven categories covered in the study.
The ACSI is a national economic indicator of customer evaluations of the quality of products and services available to household consumers in the United States.
Despite obvious tensions between broadcasters and telcos over issues like spectrum and retransmission consent, both NAB president and CEO Gordon Smith and Verizon Communications chairman and CEO Lowell McAdam stressed the importance of cooperation between broadcasters and providers of broadband services during an April 9 general session at the NAB Show.
Englewood Cliffs, N.J. — LG rolled out its next-generation Lucid LTE smartphone, the Lucid 2, through Verizon Wireless, which priced the phone for free with contract.
The Android phone replaces LG’s Lucid, launched a year ago by Verizon at $79 and targeted, like the Lucid 2, to first-time smartphone users because of price and user-interface features.
Basking Ridge, N.J. – Verizon Wireless subscribers can now use any Wi-Fi-equipped Apple or Android tablet or networked PC to initiate and receive text and multimedia messages over the Verizon network, the carrier announced.
Verizon becomes the first U.S. carrier to over such an integrated messaging service, a spokesman told TWICE.
Westlake Village, Calif. — 4G LTE networks deliver the best overall wireless-service quality in the U.S., and Verizon Wireless, the carrier offering the broadest LTE coverage, is tops in wireless-service quality in five of six regions in the U.S., J.D. Power and Associates found in a consumer survey.
LTE carrier U.S. Cellular came out on top in service quality in the North Central region, where Verizon placed second.
Basking Ridge, N.J. — Verizon Wireless will join U.S. Cellular on March 7 in offering an LTE-equipped version of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, which comes with the S Pen stylus.
The stylus lets users annotate pictures and files with handwritten messages, draw pictures on screen, and preview a file or email message without opening it when the S Pen hovers over the file or message. Apps optimized for the S Pen are also available.
The Wi-Fi-only version of the Note 10.1 became available last year.
Basking Ridge, N.J. – Verizon Wireless wants to expand its small share of the prepaid cellphone market with the launch of two plans that are less expensive than the plan they replace.
3G iPhones are eligible for the prepaid plans, as they were under the previous plan.
Only 5.7 million of the carrier’s 98.2 million retail subscribers at the end of 2012 were prepaid-plan subscribers, the company’s financial reports show. Prepaid service is also the fastest-growing segment of the cellphone market, analysts said.
Bedminster, N.J. — Verizon Wireless posted record retail postpaid net subscriber additions and record retail postpaid smartphones sales in the fourth quarter, driving up operating revenues by 9.5 percent compared with the year-ago period, to $20 billion.
The carrier posted 2.1 million retail postpaid net additions and activated 9.8 million smartphones, up from a year-ago 7.7 million smartphones but still below the more than the record 10 million smartphones activated by AT&T in the quarter.
Bedminister, N.J. – Verizon Wireless launched a 4G LTE version of Samsung’s Android-based Galaxy Camera, which is available from AT&T with 4G HSPA+ cellular-data technology.
The camera, said to be the world’s first LTE-equipped camera, enables users to shoot, edit and share pictures and videos wirelessly through Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or e-mail without connecting to a laptop or PC.
Bedminster, N.J. — Verizon Wireless will offer the next generation of its Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere with LTE and slide-out QWERTY keyboard in the coming weeks.
The Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II, priced at $129 through carrier stores after $50 mail-in rebate, will feature multiple enhancements over the current keyboard-equipped Galaxy Stratosphere, which is currently retailing for free on the carrier’s website.
Including the current Stratosphere, Verizon offers three LTE Android smartphones with slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
