Bentonville, Ark. – Organized protests by Walmart workers nationwide on Black Friday did little to dampen Thanksgiving period sales, the discount chain said.
Walmart reported 22 million customer visits on Thursday, more than last year, with many shoppers responding to a 10 p.m. CE sale Thanksgiving night. That promotion guaranteed in-stocks on three doorbusters – an iPad 2, Emerson 32-inch LCD TV and an LG Blu-ray player – and garnered an “amazing” turnout, the retailer said.
Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores said cost reductions and productivity improvements contributed to a 9 percent increase in its fiscal third-quarter profits.
Earnings topped $3.6 billion for the three months ended Oct. 31, while net sales increased 3.4 percent to $113.2 billion, including a $1.7 billion negative impact from unfavorable currency exchange rates.
Bentonville, Ark. – Walmart has revealed its Black Friday plans which, like last year, include a phased rollout of post-Thanksgiving promotions.
CE will be the focus of its own special one-hour sale, which will commence at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving evening.
But unlike past Black Fridays, which garnered notoriety when customers and staff were injured and even killed by deal-seeking throngs, Walmart is guaranteeing availability of select CE doorbusters to customers who are on in-store queues during the electronics sales event.
New York — Boxee’s new $99 Boxee TV device will go on sale at more than 3,000 Wal-Mart Stores starting Thursday.
The web-connected Boxee TV device was designed to bring live television and online video together for home users.
Wal-Mart will carry the device exclusively during the holiday season, the companies said.
Wal-Mart plans to promote the unit both with in-store point of purchase materials in outside stores through circulars.
