Richardson, Texas — Regional carrier MetroPCS postponed a shareholder vote on its planned merger with T-Mobile USA to give its shareholders time to digest a sweetened offer from T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom.
The vote was rescheduled from this Friday to April 24.
Bonn, Germany — The proposed merger between T-Mobile and regional no-contract carrier MetroPCS cleared one hurdle when the U.S. Department of Justice let expire a deadline for objecting under U.S. antitrust law, Dow Jones Newswire reported.
The development was revealed in a statement by T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom.
The merger must still get the approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the federal Committee on Foreign Investment, and MetroPCS shareholders, who will vote April 12 on the matter.
Dallas – No-contract carrier MetroPCS expanded its selection of LG cellphones with the addition of the LTE-equipped Spirit 4G Android smartphone with a 4.5-inch touchscreen.
The direct price from MetroPCS to consumers is $199 after a limited-time $70 mail-in rebate.
With the launch, MetroPCS also adds one LTE phone with LTE’s Rich Communications Services (RCS) giving the carrier ten. RCS delivers such features as simultaneous voice and multimedia messaging as well as social presence. MetroPCS has branded its service with the Joyn name.
Dallas – A $149 ZTE smartphone launched by no-contract carrier MetroPCS expands the company’s selection of Android 4G LTE smartphones priced at $149 or less to four models.
The ZTE Avid 4G joins the Coolpad Quattro 4G at $79, LG Motion 4G at $149, and Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G is $129. The carrier offers a total of nine Android LTE phones priced up to $459.
The new ZTE model is available through authorized resellers and MetroPCS corporate stores. Availability through national retailers hasn’t been announced.

The new 4G LTE network services, launched today under the Joyn brand, are available on the Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G with an app download from the @metro App Store and Google Play.
