High-Tech Fashion To Hit CES

Arlington, Va. — FashionWare will take a walk down the runway at the 2014 International CES with a lifestyle-focused exhibit at the show.

The FashionWare exhibit, produced in partnership between the Consumer Electronics Association and Living in Digital Times, will display wearable technology that combine fashion and function.

Some of the wearables will include solar-powered handbags for recharging phones and temperature-sensitive jackets.

Arlington, Va. – A new TV energy-consumption test proposed by the Department of Energy had the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) spitting kilowatts Wednesday for presenting a wasteful, redundant and unnecessary pile of red tape, in light of public/private programs already in place.

Gary Shapiro, CEA president and CEO, issued a statement on the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) move to mandate a test procedure for measuring power consumption in televisions.

Arlington, Va. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)   will hold another round of CE Demo Days over the first two weekends of October.

The four-year-old program, held in conjunction with CE specialty retailers, is a nationwide campaign to educate consumers about the latest electronics products and encourage them to experience the devices firsthand at local CE stores.

Arlington, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) today announced MotionTech, the newest TechZone addition at the 2014 International CES.

MotionTech is sponsored by MEMS Industry Group and will showcase a number of motion technology products, covering everything from motion sensing to motion gesture devices. The zone will have 3,000 square feet of floor space at the LVCC, South Hall 2. It will be located near the gaming, health and lifestyle areas.

Arlington, Va. — Home-automation technologies that offer energy efficiency are the most popular type of installed home technologies among U.S. consumers, according to the latest study released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

CEA’s “Adoption and Usage of Home Automation Technologies” study found that 47 percent of online U.S. households indicate they have a programmable (42 percent) and/or smart (12 percent) thermostat currently installed in their homes.

Arlington, Va. — Consumer confidence toward technology spending dropped to the lowest level since 2009, while sentiment toward the overall economy remained on par with August of this year, according to the latest figures released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

The CEA Index of Consumer Technology Expectations (ICTE), which measures consumer expectations about technology spending, decreased by 6.5 points in September to 80.7.

CEA Lauds House Committee’s Internet Tax Tenets

Washington — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has commended guidelines for Internet sales tax legislation released yesterday by the House Judiciary Committee.

Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) said the seven “principles,” which stress channel equality and ease of compliance, were drafted to help spark renewed discussion of an online tax bill in the House, following Senate passage of a Marketplace Fairness Act in May.
