Walmart Expands Disc-To-Digital Service, Cops Top DEG Honors At CES

LAS VEGAS – In a major expansion of it disc-to-digital movie program, Walmart will soon enable customers to convert their previously purchased DVDs and Blu-ray discs to Cloud-based digital versions at home.

Previously, customers of the chain’s disc-to-digital program were required to bring their physical movies to a Walmart store for authentication before they could access digital copies within the UltraViolet virtual content locker system.

 Here at CES, multiple suppliers are launching their first Bluetooth-only speakers, others are expanding their portfolio of Bluetooth-only speakers, and other suppliers are adding Bluetooth to speakers that incorporate docks for Apple mobile devices.

Las Vegas – Select 2014 Toyota and Lexus vehicles will become the first vehicles later this year to display real-time traffic-flow and incident information delivered via HD Radio.

More automakers plan to announce their plans for the technology in the coming months, HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital announced.

Toyota entered into a three-year agreement with Clear Channel’s subscription-free Total Traffic Network (TTN) service to receive real-time traffic plus weather information from The Weather Channel.

LAS VEGAS - Lenovo is also adding new convertible Ultrabook/tablet models to is consumer and business lines during CES this week.

The consumer IdeaPad Yoga 11s has an 11.6-inch display, an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 128GB SSD. Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, a 720p HD webcam and an HDMI output.

The $249-suggested AW3000 single-chassis stereo speaker from Philips is among a family of Fidelio-series networked speakers that stream music from PCs and from Apple and Android smartphones.


LAS VEGAS — Philips is expanding its selection of soundbars here at CES, where it is also launching a wireless multi-room-audio system that uses smartphones and PCs as music sources.

Two of the new soundbars are the company’s first with detachable speakers that can be used as battery-powered wireless surround speakers.

Other new audio products, designed and built by Philips but marketed in the U.S. by P&F USA, include a new premium Bluetooth speaker, an iPod/iPhone-docking nostalgia radio, and a transportable iPod-docking music system with DJ functions.
