Huawei Launches Its First Windows Phone 8 Smartphone

Las Vegas — Chinese cellphone supplier Huawei added its name to the growing list of suppliers offerings smartphones based on the Windows Smartphone 8 OS.

The Ascend W1 will be available in China and Russia this month, followed by the U.S., Eastern Europe, Middle East and other countries at unspecified times.

Las Vegas – Pioneer’s car audio division outlined a speedy timetable for bringing head-unit control of core iPhone 5 audio/video functions to multiple in-dash head units.

The company also expanded its selection of in-dash navigation systems to three from two and unveiled three new A/V multimedia head units.

Las Vegas — Scosche is introducing a host of new products at International CES this week, including a new line of climate-control installation kits.

The kits have 4.2-inch color touchscreen AC controllers that can be used with single or dual climate controls by plugging directly into the factory AC harness. Features include eight hard keys, the ability to accommodate ISO single- or double-DIN mounts, and factory-matched color.

Best Buy and WOLF were presented with the Carol Campbell Inspiration Award, which was accepted by Best Buy’s Liz Haesler, merchandising VP of appliances, trend, home essentials and Pacific sales. The event’s master of ceremonies was Tricia Nystrom, senior merchant/audio, of Best Buy.

LAS VEGAS – Huawei came to International CES to underscore its transition from a low-end to a high-end cellphone supplier with the launch of its first Windows 8 phone and a pair of superphones that include the world’s first smartphone with 6.1-inch screen.

LAS VEGAS — The Digital Entertainment Group, a CE and Hollywood studios-backed home video promotions group, revealed during this week’s International CES that after seven straight years of declines, U.S. home video revenue showed growth from the prior year.

The group cited market research showing a 0.23 percent increase, to $18 billion in the year, following multiple years of shrinking revenue brought on by the declining growth of the aging DVD format. In fact, annual home video revenue dropped $4 billion between 2004 and 2011.

“Innovation is the hallmark of our industry,” said Michael Petricone, senior vice president of government affairs for the Consumer Electronics Association. “It defines everything we do.
