Rockford Fosgate reps will take Ford Transit Connect vans to high-school and college football games, car shows, festivals, and other local events to promote awareness of car audio in general and Rockford Fosgate in particular.

Las Vegas – Rockford Fosgate is stepping up efforts to promote car-audio awareness among the nation’s youth through a demo-vehicle program that puts a tricked-out compact panel van in the hands of the company’s independent reps.

“Twelve- to 18-year-olds are not aware of car audio,” said Theresa Hephner, senior director of products and marketing for parent Rockford Corp. Other aftermarket car audio companies do not offer demo-vehicle programs to their reps to promote their vans, she noted.

Will TCL Theatre Mark A Branding Revolution?

Apparently, while many of us were admiring its expanded International CES booth, stuffed with 4K TVs, smartphones and tablets, TCL, the major Chinese TV manufacturer, was closing a deal to add its brand name to the iconic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

TCL reportedly spent more than $5 million on the naming rights deal. The move marks a major marketing step for a Chinese company here in the United States, and a strategically important one, targeting, as it did, the heart of the content capital of the world.

Fitbug Finals

Here are my Fitbug Challenge final results. Since I do production work for the CES Daily, my tallies were predictably lower for the second two days of the show.

Press Day: 12,391 steps

Day One: 13,094

Day Two: 9,220

Day Three: 9,401

I took the red eye home Thursday night, so it also registered the 1,001 steps it took for me to shuffle through the airport at 5 a.m. and collapse into bed.

CES Briefs

In no particular order, here are three of the cooler things I’ve seen at this year’s show:

1. Audi’s booth: I haven’t seen any pictures that do it justice (including mine), but it’s basically like standing inside of a light bulb.

2. The four Parrot AR.Drone quadricopters that perform synchronized “dance” shows.

3. Motion-sensing Legos that can be controlled with an iOS device to throw things at people.

CNET Cuts Dish From Awards Over CBS Lawsuit

By Steve Smith On Jan 10 2013 - 7:23pm

LAS VEGAS — International CES is usually a venue for plenty of product awards, generating a lot of positive press, but CNET, owned by CBS Corp., disqualified Dish’s Hopper with Sling due to “active litigation involving our parent company.”

CNET said on its site: “We will no longer be reviewing products manufactured by companies with which we are in litigation with respect to such product.”

Dish and CBS is in litigation regarding Hopper’s Prime Time Any Time and the AutoHop commercial-skipping features.
