Taipei, Taiwan — HTC unveiled a big-screen version of its flagship HTC One Android smartphone.
The HTC One Max will be HTC’s first phablet and will feature a FullHD 5.9-inch touchscreen when it becomes available in select global markets starting later this month. It will join the HTC One with 4.7-inch FullHD display and the HTC One Mini, which features a 4.2-inch 720p HD display.
HTC did not say when its big-screen counterpart would come to the U.S., but Sprint and Verizon will offer it in time for holiday sales, HTC said.

Taoyuan, Taiwan – HTC finally went into the red in its fiscal third quarter following seven consecutive quarters of double-digit percentage declines in net profit.
The smartphone maker’s third-quarter net loss after taxes hit NT$2.97 billion ($101.2 million) compared to a year-ago net profit of NT$3.9 billion, unaudited results show. Sales fell 33 percent to NT$47.1 billion ($1.6 billion), marking the seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit percentage declines.
New York — Distribution of HTC’s flagship Android smartphone, the HTC One, is expanding to additional carriers.
The device has been available from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile since April, but Verizon promises on its website to offer the device later this summer. Meantime, regional carrier C Spire of Mississippi launched the device at $199.
Taipei, Taiwan – HTC plans a worldwide launch this month of a new ad campaign that will star actor Robert Downey Jr. and highlight the change that HTC has brought to the cellphone industry, the company announced.
The campaign will include ads in cinemas, online media, and traditional media including television. In such countries as the U.K., U.S. and Taiwan, the campaign will also include experiential events in which people “will be able to experience the various creative interpretations of HTC for themselves,” the company said.
London – HTC plans to give birth to the HTC One’s baby brother, the One Mini, beginning in August in select global markets.
Distribution of the more compact, lower performance version of HTC’s flagship phone will be expanded beginning in September. Pricing and availability for the U.S. will be announced later this summer.
Chicago — The Windows Phone 8 OS posted gains today with separate announcements by U.S. Cellular and Sprint that they have begun offering their first Windows Phone 8 smartphones.
U.S. Cellular is launching the 4G LTE Samsung Ativ Odyssey today though its website and on Thursday in stores at $49. The device features 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 5-megapixel camera, 8GB internal storage, 64GB MicroSD card slot, Xbox Live integration, nearfield communication (NFC) technology and a built-in photo editor.
Taoyuan, Taiwan — HTC reported declining results in its fiscal second-quarter financial when stacked up against the prior-year period.
The handset maker said total revenues reached NT$70.7 billion for the second quarter of 2013. This compares with NT42.8 billion in the first quarter but is down from NT$91 billion the prior-year period.
Operating income was NT$1.05 billion, down from NT$8.2 billion in the second quarter of 2012.
Overland Park, Kan. — Sprint is finally jumping on the Windows Phone 8 bandwagon with the planned summertime launches of its first two Windows Phone 8 smartphones, the HTC 8XT at $99 and Samsung Ativ S Neo at $149.
The carrier said it will announce precise availability dates and a full feature list for both 4G LTE smartphones at a later date.

Fred Liu, president of engineering and operations, took on Costello’s responsibilities.
