New York – Tablets and smartphones are experiencing solid sales so far this holiday shopping season, according to Canaccord Genuity.
The firm said for November and the first part of December sales of iPad Air, mini were very strong, and it described sales as solid for the Samsung Galaxy, Amazon Kindle and Google Nexus.
Canaccord said these healthy sales will help Apple make tablet and smartphone market share gains for the fourth quarter.

El Segundo, Calif. — Focusrite launched its iTrack Studio, billed as a one-box recording system for iPads.
The Studio kit includes the company’s iTrack Solo metal-cased dual-input audio interface, which Focusrite launched last year. It also comes with HP60S closed-back monitor headphones, a CM25S studio condenser microphone with included XLR mic cable, and a 30-pin cable to connect the interface to the iPad.
Newark, Calif. -- Logitech today launched pre-ordering for two tablet accessories, the FabricSkin keyboard folio for iPad and the FabricSkin folio for iPad and iPad mini without a keyboard.
The FabricSkin keyboard folio features a Bluetooth keyboard with full-size keys that are seamlessly fused into the interior fabric. The keys offer tactile feedback like a traditional keyboard, but with a much smaller profile. The keyboard delivers three months of battery life on a charge.
Newark, Calif. — Logitech has added two Bluetooth keyboards to its lineup: the Keyboard Folio and Keyboard Folio Mini, designed for the iPad and iPad Mini, respectively.
The keyboards are designed to offer more protection than the company’s Ultrathin keyboard covers. Features include full-size membrane keys, a flip stand, magnetic closures and instant on/off. Both are said to offer a three-month battery life on a full charge if the keyboard is used about two hours per day. Charging is done via MiniUSB.
Framingham, Mass. – When it comes to shipping smart connected devices, Samsung is now the worldwide champ, according to IDC.
Samsung took over the top spot from Apple by shipping 250 million such devices, defined by IDC as desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones, in 2012. Apple was not far behind, pumping out 218.7 million such products during the same period.
For the entire year, 1.2 billion smart connected devices were shipped worldwide, a 29.1 percent increase over 2011.
Framingham, Mass. – The Apple iPad has not lost its edge, but it is getting a bit more dull.
The research firm IDC reported Apple is still the top tablet vendor, shipping 22.9 million units globally during the fourth quarter, a 48.1 percent increase over the same period last year. The company ended the quarter with 43.6 percent of the market.
Overall, 52.5 million tablets were shipped worldwide, a 75 percent jump year over year. IDC analysts credited the wider array of tablets now available for the increase.

Cupertino, Calif. – Apple is expanding its iPad selection with a 128GB version of its fourth-generation iPad with Wi-Fi and the fourth-generation Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
Apple said it expects the higher storage capacity to help it make inroads to enterprises that regularly use large amounts of data for such things as 3D CAD files, X-rays, film edits, music tracks, project blueprints, training videos and service manuals.
New York — Tablet sales during the fourth quarter of 2012 accounted for almost half of all of last year’s sales, according to Futuresource.
The research firm reported global sales during the quarter reached 64 million units and totaled 136 million units for all of 2012. The quarterly sales figure represented a 100 percent increase over the fourth quarter in 2011 and for the year, tablet sales were up 119 percent, said Arun Gill, market analyst, Futuresource Consulting.
