New York – Best Buy and Samsung officially kicked off their much ballyhooed in-store boutique program at a Manhattan launch event this morning.

On hand at the chain’s Union Square store were Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly, Samsung IT and mobile president/CEO JK Shin, and other senior executives.

The new Samsung Experience Shop, like the first 200 mini stores that preceded it, features an edited assortment of Samsung cellphones, tablets, laptops, cameras and accessories.

Washington — Samsung today honored five schools for their success in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest, a nationwide $1 million competition designed to raise enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education among U.S. public middle and high school students.

The grand prize winners were chosen for their video submissions illustrating how STEM can help address an environmental issue in their communities, Samsung said.

Dallas – A broad rollout of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone starts this month and runs through the summer, putting the device in the hands of seven carriers and seven national retailers at prices ranging from $149 to $249 with two-year contract.

New York — Samsung Electronics America today started shipping its Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook.

The Series 9 is a 13.3-inch model shipping with a $1,399 suggested retail.

The model has a FullHD display with 1,920 by 1,080 resolution. It runs an Intel Core i7 2GHz processor, with 4GB of memory and a 128GB solid-state drive. The Ultrabook also has Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a 1.3-megapixel camera, and it weighs 2.56 pounds.

Samsung stated the laptop will last almost six hours on a single charge.

Richardson, Texas – Samsung Telecommunications America declined to say whether it plans a U.S. launch of two Galaxy Mega phablets that will roll out in Europe and Russia in May.

 The two Android 4.2 devices combine traditional smartphone capabilities, including circuit-switched voice calls, with tablet-size screens.

Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung Electronics America said Thursday that it is now offering its NX1100 mirrorless compact system camera (CSC) nationwide, with built-in Wi-Fi and AutoShare, bundled with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.

The compact interchangeable lens camera bundle carries $600 suggested retail price.

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — Samsung announced a $399 suggested retail and April 11 availability of its first 8-inch Note tablet, which was intially unveiled in February at the Mobile World Congress.

The Wi-Fi-equipped tablet will be available through such retailers as Amazon, Best Buy/Best Buy Mobile, hhgregg, Newegg, P.C. Richard & Son, Staples and TigerDirect.com. Availability of a cellular-equipped version hasn’t been announced.

Samsung’s Best Buy Move — We Should Have Seen It Coming

In going through the many news and blog alerts in my email address this morning, much has been written since late last week about Samsung’s deal to open departments of its products in Best Buy.

I could bore you with the many links, but the stories/blogs fall in the following camps: It is a brilliant move by both Best Buy and Samsung; it is a move by Samsung to threaten the Apple departments in Best Buy; it is a terrible move for Samsung due to all the added expense; and it is an old-fashioned idea taken from department stores that will never work.

Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung Electronics launched Thursday a Wi-Fi version of its Galaxy Camera that is centered on the Android 4.1 platform.

The Samsung Wi-Fi Galaxy Camera, which ships later this month at a $450 suggested retail, is a point-and-shoot camera with an easy-to-navigate user interface and access to Android applications from the Google Play market.

An earlier version of the camera was launched with built-in 4G LTE support.

UPDATED! Richfield, Minn. — Samsung will leverage the traffic in Best Buy stores by rolling out dedicated boutiques for its cellphones, tablets, laptops, cameras and accessories.

By early May, 900 Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile specialty stores will feature the Samsung Experience Shop, with the remainder launching by early summer, Best Buy announced.

The shops enable consumers to interact with and buy Samsung’s mobile products “and experience how the devices connect together to enrich their lives,” the retailer said.
