UPDATE! New York – Select carriers have begun pricing Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone.

T-Mobile priced the device at $660 with no contract, announced pre-orders would begin March 24 through its website and in stores, and said in-store sales would begin April 11. With $0 down, consumers can pay the device off in installments at $27.50/month for 24 months.

AT&T and U.S. Cellular priced it at $200 with two-year contract and begin talking preorders on Friday, March 21. They said they plan early April availability.

New York — Samsung revealed prices and availability dates of a new home-audio lineup that expands the company’s selection of Wi-Fi-based wireless multiroom-audio products.

The audio products were unveiled at International CES.

New York – Samsung used a press conference at the Guggenheim Museum here Wednesday to formally roll out its 2014 A/V lines, highlighted by its expanded assortment of Ultra HDTV and curved-screen sets.

The company reviewed four 2014 Ultra HD TV series, highlighted by the company’s U9000 series of curved LED/LCD models.

Samsung’s new NX Mini mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera ($449 with 9mm kit lens) offers ILC enthusiasts an even smaller form factor.


Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung added a new spin to its expanding line of NX mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras: the pocket-sized NX Mini.

The camera measures 0.88 inches slim (1.37 inches with 9mm attached lens). It is 4.34 inches long by 2.43 inches tall, and weighs 5.57 ounces.

To achieve its reduced size, the new ultra-compact ILC model requires the use of a smaller 1-inch 20.5-megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor. Previous NX-series cameras used larger APS-C sensors.

Samsung’s VU7000 ($499) detachable upright/handheld vacuum is shipping to dealers now.


Chicago — Samsung Electronics America said Thursday that it is now shipping its first-ever fully detachable handheld hybrid vacuum and a canister vacuum.

Samsung’s VU7000 upright vacuum ($499 suggested retail) and the VC-F700G ($449) are the first to use the company’s Motion Sync design.

 Both models are being shown at the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago, March 15-18.

The Motion Sync Design is said to optimize movement during the floor cleaning routine.

Piscataway, N.J. — Two heavy hitters have thrown their weight behind the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and its Qi wireless charging standard.

Microsoft and Samsung Electro-Mechanics have joined the WPC board, the consortium announced.

"Microsoft and Samsung Electro-Mechanics are important players in furthering Qi's adoption in more devices, cars, products and places," said John Perzow, market development VP at the WPC.

Dallas – Samsung Mobile launched a free and ad-free music service for users of select Galaxy smartphones.

 Milk Music, powered by Slacker, delivers more than 200 genre-based and curated stations with more than 13 million songs.

The service also lets users create custom stations and allows for six song skips per hour per station.

Basking Ridge, N.J. — Verizon Wireless expanded its 4G LTE tablet section for the second consecutive day, this time adding the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro with 12.2-inch screen.

Yesterday, the company began offering LTE-equipped version of LG’s G Pad 8.3 tablet.

The additions expand the carrier’s LTE tablet selection to 11 models, excluding used models. Both new models are available through Verizon stores and indirect channels.
