Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung announced pricing and availability of a quartet of new tablets, making three models available at retail on Feb. 13 and a fourth available in March.
The Android 4.4 tablets include a pair of 12.2-inch tablets that are billed as the world’s first 12.2-inch tablets with a widescreen 16:10 aspect ratio and first 12.2-inch tablets with 2,560 by 1,600 WQXGA display. Both models also feature octa-core CPUs, joining the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 - 2014 edition shipping in the U.S. since October.

Seoul, South Korea — Samsung Electronics reported higher sales and net profits in the fourth quarter, ended Dec. 31, 2013.
Net sales were 59.28 trillion Korean won (KRW), up from the prior year’s fourth-quarter sales of 56.06 trillion KRW. Net profits were 7.30 trillion KRW in the quarter compared with the prior year’s 7.04 trillion KRW. Operating profits were lower in the quarter, to 8.31 trillion KRW, down from 8.84 trillion KRW in last year’s fourth quarter.
CES 2014 Las Vegas - Samsung Electronics is introducing at International CES two super-capacity laundry pairs and a premium Chef Collection kitchen suite.
The expanded laundry line includes the front-load WF9000 series, a 5.6-cubic-foot washer and 9.5-cubic-foot dryer. The former utilizes a larger drum size and SuperSpeed technology to reduce the wash cycle to 30 minutes, even for extra-large loads like two king-size comforters, the company said.
CES 2014 Las Vegas – Samsung used its 2014 International CES press conference to underscore a huge focus on Ultra HD TV (UHD), more than tripling the number of SKUs from 2013, while stressing specialized contributions to overall picture quality, future-proofing and feature performance.
Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung will go to International CES to expand its selection of home-audio products equipped with the company’s Shape wireless multi-room audio technology.
The new products include a second Shape speaker, one soundbar, two Blu-ray HTiBs and one Blu-ray player, all equipped with Wi-Fi.
In the fall, the company plans to ship a Shape adapter that connects legacy sound systems to a wireless Shape network.
Las Vegas – Samsung Electronics (booth 12004) is unveiling at International CES next week the latest installments to its NX family of mirrorless compact system cameras (CSCs) and connected Galaxy cameras.
The NX30, which ships in the first quarter at a $999 suggested retail and includes an 18-55mm kit lens, features a pro-quality 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensor, an advanced hybrid autofocus system, a wide ISO range (100 to 25,600), and 9 fps continuous shooting.
Seoul - Samsung wants a piece of the console- and mobile-gaming action.
The company has begun a global rollout of its Smartphone Game Pad, a gaming controller that controls games running on a Bluetooth-connected Android smartphone or tablet. The device works with smartphones and tablets running Android 4.1 and up but is optimized for Samsung devices running Android 4.3 and up.
The GamePad is available in select European markets and will be available in additional regions in the coming weeks. U.S. pricing and availability weren’t disclosed.
New York — Gap Intelligence reported that Hewlett-Packard put forth the most notebook advertising effort on Black Friday, pushing out 25 different ad placements.
Overall, vendor advertising was flat year over year, Gap said, with HP and Dell claiming the lion’s share.
HP’s models on sale for the Black Friday shoppers started with the $178 2000-2D09WM and went up to include the company’s high-end Envy products.
New York — Samsung’s first kids-oriented tablet, the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, became available at $229 at Samsung.com, Best Buy, Fry’s, Office Depot, Sam’s Club, TigerDirect and Toys“R”Us.
A Tab 3 Kids hard-case bundle is available at $249.
The 7-inch tablet’s only preloaded kids-oriented reading app is the Barnes & Noble Nook App for Kids, and consumers who purchase the tablet and register for a new Nook account get more than $50 in free kids eBooks and magazines.
Bellevue, Wash. — T-Mobile’s MetroPCS prepaid brand became the latest carrier to offer Samsung’s 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega smartphone/tablet hybrid.
The phablet will be available in MetroPCS corporate stores and in independently owned MetroPCS stores in the brand’s 45 markets, as well as online, starting Nov. 21 for as low as $349 after instant rebates.
Information on whether the phablet would also be available through national retailers wasn’t available.
