2013 Int’l CES Attendance Was More Than 150,000

Arlington, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), owner and producer of the International CES, reported that an independent audit confirmed 152,759 people attended the show in Las Vegas this January.

A record number of international industry professionals — 36,206 — from 150 countries attended the show. The 2013 CES featured 3,282 exhibitors from around the globe and a record number of startup companies, including the 150 exhibitors in Eureka Park.

Austin, Texas — Klipsch is making a mark at this week's South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival (SXSW).

The brand will be onsite as an official sponsor of the The Morning After at Haus of Hipstamatic — Austin, providing artists, exhibitors and attendees with brunch and continuous live music from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 12-16.

The live stage, powered by Klipsch audio, will host a DJ set by Neon Indian as well live performance from Capital Cities, the Limousines, Guards, Quiet Company, Wildcat! Wildcat!, and others.

Newport Beach, Calif. — The Home Entertainment (THE) Show Newport, to be held May 31 to June 2, is expected to sell out of exhibit space early, according to show organizers.

Currently, occupancy levels are exceeding 2012 figures, and exhibit space in the Hilton is already sold out. Exhibit space is still available at the Atrium hotel, adjacent to the Hilton, but is filling up fast, according to a statement.

Las Vegas —The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) reported that the 2013 International CES was the largest in the show’s 45-year history, with 1.92 million net square feet of exhibit space.

The previous record was 1.86 million net square feet of space at the 2012 International CES. More than 3,250 exhibitors unveiled some 20,000 new products at the 2013 CES, drawing more than 150,000 attendees, including more than 35,000 from more than 170 countries outside the United States.

LAS VEGAS — International CES is usually a venue for plenty of product awards, generating a lot of positive press, but CNET, owned by CBS Corp., disqualified Dish’s Hopper with Sling due to “active litigation involving our parent company.”

CNET said on its site: “We will no longer be reviewing products manufactured by companies with which we are in litigation with respect to such product.”

Dish and CBS is in litigation regarding Hopper’s Prime Time Any Time and the AutoHop commercial-skipping features.

LAS VEGAS — The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) plans to open up additional wireless spectrum for unlicensed use to avoid the risk of running headlong into a “Wi-Fi wall,” FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said Wednesday.

During a One On One session with CEA president Gary Shapiro, Genachowski said the commission plans to launch proceedings next month to set aside an additional 195MHz of bandwidth in the 5GHz band for Wi-Fi use, expanding the 5GHz Wi-Fi band by 35 percent.
