CEA Foundation Donates $50K Grant To HLAA

Arlington, Va. — The CEA Foundation, a public, national foundation affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), has made a grant of $50,000 to the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA).

Its donation will fund a hands-on, train-the-trainer program on hearing assistive and emerging technologies for consumers with hearing loss, the group said, aligning its mission to link seniors and people with disabilities with technologies to enhance their lives.

New York — The largest wireless power providers in the U.S. and Europe today announced a merger.

Powermat, which markets wireless device-charging solutions in the U.S. under the Duracell Powermat brand, and PowerKiss, Europe's market leader, have entered into a definitive agreement to combine their companies under the Powermat Technologies umbrella.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

Arlington, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced the 2013 class of inductees into the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame.

Fifteen people make up the new class:

• Samar Basu — worked on the lithium-ion battery at Bell Labs;

Manning Greenberg — covered the CE industry for Home Furnishings Daily for decades;

• Marcian (Ted) Hoff — invented the microprocessor;

Arlington, Va. — Some 585 million pounds of electronics devices were responsibly recycled in 2012 by CE companies working in the eCycling Leadership Initiative.

The industry effort, spearheaded by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), is designed to increase recycling collaboration among consumers, CE manufacturers, retailers, collectors, recyclers, non-governmental organizations and governments at all levels.

CEA said the 2012 tally represents a 27 percent increase over 2011 and a 95 percent increase since 2010.

Arlington, Va. – Gary Shapiro, CEO/president of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) addressed The Media Institute yesterday on the topic of “Digital Ninjas – What We Need to Ensure American Leadership.”

Shapiro drew on CEA’s new book Ninja Innovation: The Ten Killer Strategies of the World’s Most Successful Businesses to criticize broadcasters for opposing innovation, specifically noting their efforts to impede spectrum auctions.

Washington — On their recent visit to Congress, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) officials and members lobbied for passage of the SHIELD Act, a bill that would impose reforms to stop “patent trolls” who file frivolous lawsuits against tech companies.

CEA pitched the House-sponsored legislation, formerly known as “Saving High-Tech Innovators from Egregious Legal Disputes (SHIELD) Act,” which is being introduced by Rep. Peter A. DeFazio (D-Ore.) and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah).
