CEA Group To Explore Ways To Cut Distracted Driving

Arlington,Va, - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) reports it is forming the Driver Device Interface Working Group to develop industry standards and/or best practices for designing consumer electronics products to help maximize driver safety while using consumer technologies in the car.

CEA’s Portable Handheld and In-Vehicle Electronics Committee approved this group to deal with portable and handheld consumer electronics products, as well as consumer electronics products used in private and commercial vehicles, boats and aircraft.

Arlington, Va. - The CEA Foundation, a charitable foundation affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), announced its support of Raising the Floor (RtF) with a grant to support expansion of the RtF Unified Listing to include accessibility-compatible consumer electronic products.

The database will enable consumers to easily identify devices that best meet their accessibility needs. Additionally the information will be openly available to be used by existing databases such as the FCC Accessibility Clearinghouse.

Arlington, Va. — The 2014 International CES will feature 40 hardware and software exhibitors in its Gaming Showcase TechZone, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) reminded everyone today.

The 2014 CES is scheduled to be held Jan. 7-10, 2014, in Las Vegas and is owned and produced by CEA.

New York — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) reports that the annual CE Week Line Shows and Exhibits will be held here starting June 26, and will be supported by more than 120 participating companies.

CE Week Line Shows and Exhibits is scheduled for June 26-27 at the Metropolitan Pavilion and Altman Building. This is the main event of CE Week, the CE industry’s weeklong, citywide event that runs June 24-28, here.

Arlington, Va. — Joe Clayton, Dish Network president and CEO, and Mike Mohan, Best Buy home business group president, have been appointed to fill vacant positions on the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) board of industry leaders (BIL), Jay McLellan, board chairman, said Thursday. 

The CEA BIL is comprised of 45 consumer technology industry leaders and serves CEA and its executive board in an advisory role, helping to set priorities for association activities and industry public policy positions.

Washington — President Obama today issued five executive orders and seven legislative suggestions aimed at curbing the influence of patent trolls.

The White House said in a statement it took these steps to “improve incentives for future innovation in high-tech patents, a key driver of economic growth and good-paying American jobs.”

Arlington, Va. — Consumer confidence in both the broader economy and technology spending decreased in May, according to the latest figures released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

The CEA Index of Consumer Expectations (ICE), which measures consumer expectations about the broader economy, fell 2.9 points in May to 159.7.

Arlington, Va. — The CEA Foundation, a public, national foundation affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), has made a grant of $50,000 to the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA).

Its donation will fund a hands-on, train-the-trainer program on hearing assistive and emerging technologies for consumers with hearing loss, the group said, aligning its mission to link seniors and people with disabilities with technologies to enhance their lives.

New York — The largest wireless power providers in the U.S. and Europe today announced a merger.

Powermat, which markets wireless device-charging solutions in the U.S. under the Duracell Powermat brand, and PowerKiss, Europe's market leader, have entered into a definitive agreement to combine their companies under the Powermat Technologies umbrella.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced.
