Fuji Adds M-Mount Adapter For X-Pro1

Valhalla, N.Y. - Fujifilm North America unveiled this week an M-Mount adapter for the Fujifilm X-Pro1 interchangeable-lens digital camera system.

The M-Mount adapter, shipping in June at a $200 suggested retail, is designed to enable the use of high quality Leica M-Mount lenses on the Fujifilm's new X-Pro1 mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, which was first introduced at International CES in January.

ABI Research: Phablets Are Fab

London - Global factory-level shipments of phablets, the cellular device that is larger than a smartphone but smaller than a tablet, will increase 10-fold in 2012 to 19.2 million compared with 2011, ABI Research said.

In 2015, global phablet shipments will hit 208 million.

In North America, phablet sales were non-existent in 2011 but will jump to 4.4 million in 2012 and rise to 55.5 million in 2016, the research and consulting company said.

ABI defines phablets as having a touchscreen between 4.6 to 5.5 inches in size.

Seagate To Acquire LaCie

Cupertino, Calif. - Seagate Technology will acquire a controlling interest in fellow data storage provider LaCie.

Seagate has offered to purchase from Philippe Spruch, LaCie's chairman and CEO, and his affiliate, all of their shares, representing 64.5 percent of the outstanding shares of LaCie. Following receipt of governmental approvals and the close of this transaction, Seagate would commence an all-cash simplified tender offer to acquire the remaining outstanding shares in accordance with the General Regulation of the French Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF).

Dell Reports Lower Sales, Profits In Q1

Round Rock, Texas - Dell reported lower revenue and net income in its fiscal first quarter ended May 4.

Net revenue was $14.4 billion, down 4 percent from the prior year's first quarter.

Consolidated operating income was $824 million from the prior year's $1.2 billion.

In its consumer business net revenue for the quarter was $3.04 billion down from the prior year's $3.45 billion. Consolidated operating income was $32 million, down from the prior year's $170 million.

Dish, Roku Add International Package

Englewood, Colo. - Dish Network and said Wednesday they have reached a deal to bring the DishWorld service to the Roku streaming platform in the U.S.

The agreement will enable Roku to offer more than 50 international programming channels, including the leading Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Bangla and Brazilian channels. The DishWorld service enables Dish to expand its distribution of ethnic channels into urban and multi-dwelling unit markets difficult to reach by satellite.
