GE Readies J-Series Digicam Line

General Imaging, which is the licensee of the GE digital camera brand in the United States, said it will soon ship its GE J-series digital camera line, including models J1050 and J1250.

Both point-and-shoot digital cameras come with a package of features, including pan-capture panorama for seamless, wide-angle shots; auto scene detection; blink, smile and face detection; image stabilization; and in-camera red-eye removal.

Snapfish Adds Pickup Through Walmart, Duane Reade

Online photo service Snapfish by HP has partnered with Walmart and New York drug store chain Duane Reade to offer the ability to pick up lab-quality photo prints or photo cards ordered on Snapfish.com.

The service will enable customers to order prints online and pick them up at a local store within an hour. The program will be offered at 3,350 participating Walmart stores nationwide, Snapfish said.

Sony Electronics recently introduced a multitasking digital photo frame and printer combination that will allow users to display their digital snapshots and make printouts for friends and family.

The S-Frame DPP-F700 is billed as an all-in-one device that allows photo lovers to display their favorite photos and make an instant print copy for interested friends and family.

Casio recently introduced what it is calling “the world's toughest camera” in the Exilim G EX-G1.

The digital camera was said to have been developed with “endurance engineering as its cornerstone.”

The EX-G1, which will ship in December at $300 suggested retail, is the first in the company's new Exilim G camera line and features a 0.78-inch (19.9-mm) slim-line, low-profile, stainless-steel frame design.

PNY Technologies announced it has partnered with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for a movie-download promotion.

With every new purchase of specially marked PNY 8GB and 16GB Attache USB flash drives, Optima SDHC flash-memory cards and MicroSDHC flash-memory cards, consumers will receive one bonus full-length movie download from Sony Pictures, valued at approximately $10, PNY said.

Digital camera analysts are calling for “another challenging year” in new product sales in 2010, even as the pressures of the economy start to ease somewhat.

Chris Chute, IDC Worldwide digital image solutions research manager, estimated that the U.S. digital camera business would tally a 9 percent decline for 2009, and that level would drop another 7 percent in 2010, despite a slight return to growth in the digital-SLR category.

Jobo AG recently introduced two stylishly designed digital photo frames that target affordable price points.

Models Curve 7 and Curve 8 feature rounded edges and are available in either a black or white varnish finish on the frame. Screen sizes measure just smaller than 7 inches and 8 inches, respectively.

Both models will be available in the U.S. later this summer for a $59 suggested retail each (Curve 7 Black and Curve 7 White) and $89 (Curve 8 Black and Curve 8 White).
