BrandsMart USA, the five-unit Southern Florida brown- and white-goods emporium, has become the second retailer, after Sears, to carry VOOM, the high-definition TV-centric home satellite service.
Under the pact, VOOM will work closely with BrandsMart to train the dealer's sales and installation staff and to set up displays. The two are also collaborating on a co-operative marketing campaign to promote the direct broadcast satellite (DBS) system through TV and newspaper ads, and are offering consumers a $500 discount on any HDTV through July 5 with a two-year subscription.
"HDTVs continue to be a big seller at BrandsMart and a big growth area for our business," said president Michael Perlman. "Now our customers have access to an entire HDTV package [including sets and programming] in all of our retail locations."
Bill Casamo, executive VP/marketing and sales for VOOM operator Rainbow DBS, a division of Cablevision, said the partnership "provides us with the important linkage to sales of HDTV receivers in a market where off-air HDTV reception is excellent."
The addition of BrandsMart, a former DirecTV dealer, dovetailed with Rainbow's selection of O'Rourke Sales Company as a national VOOM distributor (see TWICE, May 17, p. 20).
