Verizon Continues Concept-Store Rollout

Verizon Wireless continued the rollout of its newest store format with the opening of a new location here last month.

The prototype, introduced earlier this year, offers consumers what the carrier describes as “a high-tech and hands-on experience with wireless voice, data, music and video services.”

The updated design has been rolled out to more than 100 new locations around the country, including Boston and North Kingstown, R.I., within the New England market. The concept stores will be introduced in additional locations — and older stores will be retrofit to the new format —throughout the rest of the year Verizon said.

The stores feature a bright new design and integrate a number of innovative systems and operational enhancements designed to streamline the sales process and enhance the customer experience, Verizon said. These include:

  • notebook PCs demonstrating BroadbandAccess, the company’s high-speed wireless Internet service geared toward mobile professionals, business customers and college students; Verizon Wireless cell sites across New England offer wireless broadband connectivity;
  • more than 55 working models of handsets, PC cards and other devices for customers to try;
  • a greeter kiosk that allows customers to check in once they enter the store and list their wireless needs, so representatives can quickly assist them;
  • a bill-payment kiosk that allows customers to make account payments quickly and easily using checks, cash or credit/debit card; and
  • customer-service and technical-support departments where customers can get account information and technical support from trained in-store staff.

Verizon Wireless operates approximately 2,400 company-owned stores and kiosks.
