PRO Adds SpeakerCraft
RIVERSIDE, CALIF. — Custom-install supplier SpeakerCraft has joined the vendor roster of the Progressive Retailers Organization (PRO Group), bringing to three the number of custom suppliers in the buying organization. PRO executive director David Workman said the group was attracted in part to SpeakerCraft’s position as a supplier of a broad array of custom speakers and electronics as well as the planned Nirv multi-room-A/V system, said. Nirv will distribute multiple 1080p video streams and multiple stereo music streams simultaneously to up to 256 zones over category cable. The network is compliant with Blu-ray’s HDCP copy-control technology.

“We were first intrigued by the quality and innovation of the product line, but it goes beyond that,” Workman said. SpeakerCraft’s “fresh perspective and willingness to help our members market custom as a category makes them more than just another supplier.”

Stampede Adds Turnkey eStores, Sales Staffers

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Stampede, a valueadded distributor of presentation and home-theater technology, has launched Stampede eStores, a turnkey solution to enable dealers to quickly and easily operate a transactional Web site. For $99 a month, dealers receive a customized online store that can be assorted with 5,000 products from Stampede’s Big Book of AV as well as other products carried by the dealer. Product content and images, weekly product promotions, merchant account integration and order fulfi llment are all handled by Stampede.

Separately, Stampede has added two more industry veterans to support the company’s integration group. From their base in the Seattle area, Todd Teachenor and Jim Leibold will cover Stampede’s Western U.S. territory.

NARDA Releases Dealer Cost Study

CHICAGO — The North American Retail Dealers Association (NARDA) has released a report that can help dealers gauge the health of their businesses by comparing key financial metrics against industry benchmarks. The trade group’s Cost of Doing Business Study surveyed a sample of U.S. retailers and servicers in the appliance, consumer electronics and mixed sales categories on key income statement and balance-sheet metrics. The results, said NARDA, provide a clear picture of dealer profitability, liquidity, operations expenses and balance-sheet management.

Among the findings, the average participant reported a gross profit margin of nearly 34 percent, reflecting the use of volume rebates to reduce the cost of goods sold; inventory turns were down from the industry benchmark of 6 annual turns; and gross margins helped offset the decreases with an all dealer average of $1.80 return on inventory (ROI), which is very close to the industry benchmark of $2. The report, prepared with Management Advisors president Sandy Cloud, is available to NARDA members for $150, to non-members for $200, and is free to survey participants. Petra Mails 25th B-Day Flier

EDMOND, OKLA. — Petra Industries, the national CE, custom installation, mobile audio/video accessories and appliance connection supplies distributor, has mailed a 32-page sales flier marking its 25th anniversary to more than 44,000 independent retailers, e-tailers and custom-install integrators nationwide.
